Connect AVA Golf to your AI assistant
AVA Golf runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so you can ask your own AI assistant about your own golf data in plain language: your rounds and practice sessions, strokes gained, club distances, trends, and the priorities AVA has found for your game.
- Read-only. The connection can’t create, change or delete anything in your account.
- Only your data. Everything it returns belongs to the AVA Golf account that approved the connection.
- Your choice. AVA Golf’s consent screen shows what the assistant is asking to read, and you can revoke access at any time.
You need an active AVA Golf membership.
Server URL
Section titled “Server URL”https://app.avagolf.com/mcp
There is no API key to copy. When you add the URL, your assistant registers itself with AVA Golf, sends you to AVA Golf to sign in, and then shows you the consent screen.
Connect your assistant
Section titled “Connect your assistant”Claude
Section titled “Claude”On a Free, Pro or Max plan:
- Go to Customize › Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector and enter the server URL. Name it AVA Golf if Claude asks for a name.
- If Claude asks how it should identify itself, choose Register automatically.
- Click Add, then sign in to AVA Golf and approve the connection.
The Free plan allows one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds the connector under Organization settings › Connectors (Add, then Custom), and each member then connects their own AVA Golf account from Customize › Connectors.
In a chat, click +, choose Connectors, and make sure AVA Golf is on. Anthropic’s guide to adding a connector by URL has the details.
ChatGPT
Section titled “ChatGPT”In ChatGPT on the web:
- Go to Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter AVA Golf as the name and, under Connection, the server URL.
- Choose OAuth for authentication.
- Read the warning, select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
- Install the plugin from your plugins. When ChatGPT sends you to AVA Golf, sign in and approve the connection.
In a chat, type @ and choose AVA Golf. Whether you can add a custom MCP server depends on
your ChatGPT plan and, in a workspace, on what your admin allows. OpenAI’s guide to
custom MCP servers has the
details.
Gemini
Section titled “Gemini”- On a computer, go to gemini.google.com.
- Click Settings, then Connected Apps. If you don’t see it, click Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps.
- Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app and enter the server URL.
- Click Next, then sign in to AVA Golf and approve the connection.
Once it’s connected on the web, it works in the Gemini mobile app too. In a chat, type @
and choose AVA Golf.
Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients
Section titled “Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients”Clients that take a server URL in their configuration connect the same way: they register, open a browser for you to sign in and approve, and keep their own tokens. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http ava-golf https://app.avagolf.com/mcp
Most other clients take a configuration like this. The exact file and key depend on the client, so check its documentation.

What you approve
Section titled “What you approve”The consent screen names the assistant and lists, in plain language, what it’s asking to read. Each tool below needs one of the first four permissions.
| Permission | On the consent screen | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
activities:read | Your rounds and practice sessions | Rounds, practice sessions and shots |
performance:read | Your performance map, bag, handicap and swing profile | Strokes gained by category, clubs and carry distances, Handicap Index® history, swing tendencies |
trends:read | Your trends and charts | How your recent rounds compare with earlier ones, and the data behind each chart |
issues:read | Your priorities and the practice work behind them | Your priority list and the evidence for each priority |
offline_access | Stay connected without signing in again | Nothing on its own. It lets the assistant renew its access without asking you to sign in again |
If a connection doesn’t include the permission a tool needs, that tool answers with a message naming the missing permission instead of data.
What your assistant can read
Section titled “What your assistant can read”The server has 14 tools, all read-only. They return summaries written for an assistant to
read. Apart from a bounded sample in query_shots, no tool returns raw shot rows.
| Tool | What it returns | Permission |
|---|---|---|
get_player_summary | Where your game stands: Handicap Index®, recent rounds and sessions, your strongest and weakest trend, your top three priorities, and how fresh the numbers are | Any |
list_activities | Your rounds and practice sessions, newest first, with scores and strokes gained by phase. It can be limited to rounds or practice, up to 100 at a time | activities:read |
get_round | One round: the hole-by-hole scorecard, strokes gained by phase, the costly mistakes AVA flagged, and the weather | activities:read |
get_practice_session | One practice session: its rating, focus tags, your note, the shot count and the clubs used | activities:read |
query_shots | Shot statistics grouped by club, category, sub-category or lie, from rounds, practice or both, optionally filtered by club, category and date: shot counts, average and total strokes gained, distance, and a sample of shots for dispersion | activities:read |
get_bag | Every club you carry, with on-course and practice carry distances, sample sizes, dispersion, the gap to the next club, and flags where the data is thin | performance:read |
list_clubs | Your club list: type, make, model, loft and status, and any active club that’s missing from the bag in your connected device or app | performance:read |
get_performance_map | Strokes gained by category and sub-category over your last 5, 10 or 20 rounds, with the baseline each number is measured against | performance:read |
get_handicap_history | Your Handicap Index® over time, the rounds behind it, scoring over par, and whether it comes from an official handicap record or AVA’s estimate | performance:read |
get_swing_profile | Swing tendencies by club type (club path, face, attack angle, spin axis, carry bias), with scores and how they drift within a session | performance:read |
get_trends | Every metric AVA tracks, compared between your recent and earlier rounds, with sample sizes, the change, and whether it’s significant | trends:read |
get_trend_chart | The data behind one performance chart, such as driving distance, approach dispersion or putting outcomes, over your last 5, 10, 20 or all rounds | trends:read |
get_top_priorities | Your priorities, grouped by category and worst first, with the strokes each one costs you and what’s behind it | issues:read |
get_issue | One priority in full: its evidence, strokes gained per round over your last 20 rounds, and the practice sessions that relate to it | issues:read |
Assistants that read MCP resources also get ava://profile: your Handicap Index® and, with
performance:read, your clubs and swing dimensions.
Things to ask
Section titled “Things to ask”- Give me a quick summary of where my game is right now.
- Where am I losing the most strokes over my last 10 rounds?
- How far do I actually carry each club, and where are the gaps?
- Walk me through my most recent round hole by hole.
- What are my top three things to practice, and why?
- Is my driving getting better or worse lately?
- How has my Handicap Index® changed this year?
- What’s my average strokes gained with wedges from 50–100 yards?
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- 120 tool calls per connected assistant every 10 minutes. Past that, the assistant gets a message saying so instead of data. Wait a few minutes and ask again.
query_shotsreturns at most 50 groups per call, with up to 20 sample shots per group by default and never more than 100.- Access lasts 10 minutes at a time. If you approved Stay connected without signing in again, the assistant renews it on its own. Otherwise it goes back through AVA Golf’s sign-in, which doesn’t show the consent screen again while the connection stands.
Revoke access
Section titled “Revoke access”In AVA Golf, go to Settings › Connections. Under Connected apps you’ll see every assistant you’ve connected, the permissions you approved and the date. Revoke ends its access straight away: its next request is refused, and it has to ask for your approval again to reconnect.
Revoking doesn’t affect your data, your device and app connections, or your account. It also can’t recall data the assistant has already received, which the company behind that assistant handles under its own terms.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| … needs the … scope | The connection doesn’t include the permission that tool needs. Revoke it, reconnect, and approve every permission the assistant asks for. |
| Access revoked | The connection was revoked in Settings while the assistant still held access. Connect again to keep using it. |
| Subscription Required | Your AVA Golf membership isn’t active, so there’s nothing to read until it is. |
| Round not found, Practice session not found, or similar | That round, session or priority isn’t in your account, or has been deleted. |
| Rate limit reached | That assistant made more than 120 calls in 10 minutes. Wait a few minutes. |
| The assistant offers to change something in AVA Golf | The connection only reads. That offer is the assistant’s own text, and nothing in AVA Golf changes. |
Privacy and support
Section titled “Privacy and support”- How AVA Golf handles a connection, and what it shares: Privacy Policy, section 1.8 and Terms of Service, section 11.3.
- Once your assistant receives your data, the company that provides it handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Questions: support@avagolf.com.
